The Merck Stray Gathering puts teamwork, timing, and true cowboy skill to the test as four-person teams race the clock to rope, tie, and secure two steers in this action-packed arena showdown.

HOW IT WORKS
Teams of four break into two pairs and start behind the timeline.
At the opposite end of the arena, two steers are turned out. Time starts when the first team member crosses the line.

Each pair must:

Head and heel one steer,
Only rope with their designated partner,
And each roper may only rope once.
No helping rope the other pair’s steer.

After the Catch:

Once a pair has their steer caught on both ends, the full team may help with the tie.
Steers must be tied with any three legs.
Head ropes must be removed before time is called.
No tying on.

The Six-Second Rule:

Both steers must remain tied for six seconds.
If one or both come loose, the team receives a no time.

Time Limit:

Teams have two minutes to complete the entire gathering.
Fastest Time Wins

Simple, gritty, and full of adrenaline—this event is a fan favorite and a true test of cowboy power and precision.
